About the Owners

Together for over 25 years, and married since 2002, we have lived in Wisconsin, Florida, Washington and now Michigan.  We adopted two Miniature Schnauzers in 2002, Psymon and Sasha (for whom the kennel is named).  We knew early on that owning a dog boarding facility was something we would eventually accomplish, it just took some time to make it to this point.  We always struggled to find the right place to leave our pups when we would travel - we worried about the cleanliness and whether the dogs would receive the attention they deserved.  We have gone to great lengths to assure you that Sasha's Pet Retreat prides itself on our spotless kennel and our ability to give our guests plenty of attention during their stay.  We look forward to meeting our guests for tours of the facility so you can see firsthand how we have painstakingly made sure that our building and grounds are maintained to the highest standards.  After 20 years of dog sitting for friends and co-workers, we are confident you will find our services exceed your expectations.  We currently have two dogs of our own, Gretta (Miniature Schnauzer) and Baxter (Shih Tzu).  They love meeting our guests almost as much as we do.

Our passion for caring for dogs is second to none!

I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a focus on Human Resources.  This lead to working in an office setting as both HR and Office Management for many years.  We have traveled to New Zealand, the Cook Islands, China, Scotland, Iceland, Jamaica, as well as all around the U.S.  But coming back to an office every time made me realize I wanted something different.  I love getting to spend more time outside, minimal time at a desk and caring for the sweet dogs and cats in the Ionia area!

Having a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Computer Science, I worked in IT for most of my adult life.  The industry began to bore me and I went back to school to take some Accounting, Economics and Business courses.  After earning a Certificate in Leadership and Management, it was time to focus on making the kennel ownership dream, a reality.  I love traveling, both domestically and internationally, and was able to take a half year off to teach American Government at Hebei Normal University in Shijiazhuang, China in 2007-2008.  Special thanks to Gina for helping make that happen!  While the travel has been put on hold now, caring for your dogs fills my time and I could not be happier with that!
